There are many of us out there who enjoy building things, lord knows I’m one of them. There are many models around my desk, house and indeed parents’ house that confirm this as fact.
So, recently whilst searching for something else (as ever) I stumbled upon this item on a Chinese website for Geeks… (Ahem, no comments please). This is a made from lots of different sizes and shapes pre-cut pieces of wood and all the necessary pieces of electrical wiring. Now I can’t begin to tell you what the sites says, it’s all in Chinese, but it has lots of pictures. Pictures help. I haven’t even tried to use Google translate to get more details, but it seems it is available the world over for a fair price.
Everybody says well done Chinese Geek fellas, it’s a nice item which we wouldn’t mind on our desks here at Everybody towers.

Happy new year to everyone… 14 days in and we finally got a minute to make our first post of the new year.
As committed Apple users, we were a bit dubious when a colleague pointed us in the direction of a wooden PC, which he told us looked great. PC? Nah, Wooden… Serious? So we went to the link he sent us and to our surprise this little PC looks fantastic. It’s styled by the Korean, Design Hara company, who have made it look like a bunch of the great retro looking machines we see from the great age of 70′s 8 track tapes and home stereo equipment.
The machine itself has a modern inside at least, it’s optical drive is a Blu-Ray player and is geared up to provide enough oomph for your media needs, perfect for HD movies etc. Possibly the most interesting thing is the machine is very low on power usage, meaning less carbon emissions. Options include faster processors, bigger hard drives and somewhat more interestingly, Lamb skin leather covers… Just incase it gets cold.
Each of these little beauties is hand made as ordered, and therefore limited edition. There’s no mention of price (or none that we can find at least), but we don’t expect to pick this up for €200 any time soon…
Everybody says well done Korean fellas, we’re sticking to our Macs for now, but if there was a cool mac based option like that, then we’d be in there.

On a recent look around the museum websites I found an interesting concept which struck me as, not only dead simple, but also beautiful too. I’ve seen it before – a few years ago in a magazine – and then forgot about it, but this time I thought I should share it with the world.
A piece by Daniel Rozin, it’s a mirror which uses wooden blocks and a carefully positioned light to produce the image that a small camera sees, in realtime. As a dark shape moves across the camera’s field of view, the wooden blocks are rotated to make a ‘mirror image’ of what stands before it. It struck me as being something which is a solution to a problem which doesn’t exist (as the mirror already does it’s job perfectly well). But on closer inspection it becomes a live piece of art, which will never be the same twice. Something which I would love to put on my wall, even if it is to see the blocks rotate around each time you put things in front of it.
Maybe I’m a geek, and maybe it isn’t the most amazing thing in the world, but, I personally think it is something that would keep me busy for hours, and not many pieces of art can do that.
Have a look at the artist’s website by clicking the picture above and look at the other things he has used to create mirrors and other interesting pieces of interactive art.
