Portfolio: De zorg kan zo veel beter

De zorg kan zó veel beterDe zorg kan zó veel beterDe zorg kan zó veel beter

Nefarma has asked Everybody to give shape to the website Dezorgkanzoveelbeter.nl. This website is a result of a conference hosted by Nefarma and its members on 18 November 2010, which had the goal to explore and stimulate cooperation between health care organisations in The Netherlands. On the website a range of initiatives for various fields in the health care spectrum are presented, with the intention of inspiring better cooperation, leading to a higher level of health care. Programming and an exclusive video player were completed by our friends at Little Rocket Studios.

Beautiful stop frame animation

For a few months we’ve been into stop frame animation, sure it’s been around for a long time, but we;re gonna post a few examples of how stop frame motion can give a much more emotive feel for video work. Once upon a time the only way to produce animation was to use “Stop Frame Animation”, ie. move something very slightly and take a photo of it each time… when run together you get motion. That’s old school, but it is often the case the old ways are often the best for different reasons.

for years filmmakers such as the legendary Ray Harryhausen used this method to produce mind blowing animations of dinosaurs and skeleton warriors in films before the computer became the pre-eminent production method. Ray Harryhausen was the main exponent of this style in Hollywood movies such as Jason and the Argonauts and the Sinbad series, one look at his website will give you a great idea of what he is about.

This is the video for the single from Oren Lavie called “Her Morning Elegance” it’s a beautiful example of how stop frame animation can be used to explore an idea. Call it art for arts sake if you want, but in this case it suits the music perfectly. (It has obvious similarities (too similar some say) to a video by the artist Mitchell Rose, have a look here click)

The video show just how an idea can come to life using one technique over another… imagine if this had been produce in a 3d computer style, it would have nothing like the same emotion, drawn either.

Everybody likes this movie, and indeed Stop Frame Animation. As usual click the movie to go to youtube and watch it. It’s well worth 5 minutes of your day.

She farted and created the world

Yes, you read that right. She farted and created the world is the title of an animation by a talented fella by the name of Scott Coello.

He uses only bits of recycled paper and pens to draw with to make a very impressive animation about the evolution of everything. Cleverly conceived and even better in execution, this is well worth it’s position in the final 12 of the virgin media animated short film awards.

Everybody loves this style, digs this subject and enjoyed it thoroughly. Make sure you click the link above to watch the movie on Vimeo. Very worth the effort, but make sure the HD is on, it makes it really worth while.

That was a short but sweet post, but then so is the animation.

Tape art… (New shit has come to light, Man)

iri5_dude

Most of you who were born before 1980, will remember what it was like recording your own selection of music on an audio cassette player. Sitting by the radio, waiting for that one song to come by and hoping the Disc Jockey wouldn’t talk through the intro. Those cassettes were played over and over again, until the tape would finally die. Some cassettes would be too precious to give up on, so I would try to rescue them. Then what mostly happened was the tape would run/come out completely, leaving me without any hope…

An artist named iri5 managed to find an alternative destination for her old tapes. Using these tapes, iri5 has turned them into a remarkable work of art in a series that she calls “Ghost in the Machine.”  The series portrays celebrities and musicians such as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Marilyn Monroe and my all time favorite movie character “the Dude” from The Big Lebowski. Her style focuses on recycling materials, such as those old cassettes, VHS tapes and used books.

She says: ”It feels great to work with strange, older materials. Things that have a mind of their own. Most everything I use has been thrown away or donated at some point. Past its prime, like some of the finest things in the world.” Everybody says: you go girl. As is the way of the web, click on the picture above to see her great works of art… making sure you also check out her compositions made out of photographs.
